I know this post will not be for everyone but I do feel that although a lot of you may not suffer with anxiety everyone suffers with stress and these are my tips and techniques to dealing with anxiety and stress. I must say though, that although they work for me doesn't mean they will work for everyone! Hopefully some of these will help you and you can try them out!
So if like me you suffer with anxiety, everyday can be a struggle, you don't know what you're going to face that day and you have no idea how your body may react. I personally get very stressed out over being late to places such as work, I also panic about meeting new people and worry about what they will think of me, there are many more things that can trigger my anxiety and panic attacks but I think these are the main ones. I feel like these issues are ones that can be dealt with quite easily for instance I stop myself from worrying about being late by telling myself I start half an hour earlier and aiming to get there around 30 minutes before I need to be, I know that this may not be practical for a lot of people or if you're very busy one day you may not be able to do this, but in general I try and just get to places nice and early it eliminates the stress, and I will take a book or some for of entertainment for when I arrive which can also help calm you down. This is also a good idea for big things like job interviews or meetings it gives you time to calm down and relax before going in.
Another tip of mine is colouring books!! I know that might seem a bit stupid but it works so well for me. There are adult colouring books and they are genuinely for stress I currently own two but they work so well for me so i definitely will be investing in some more.
A lot of my friends say that trying to colour stuff like that in would stress them out more, which I can totally understand because you do need patience for things like this, but for me patience isn't an issue so colouring like this really helps me take my mind off everything. So if you've had a bad day at school or work this could be a good pass time in the evening. The most satisfying part is finishing a page and seeing how beautiful it looks, I would advice you give this technique a try it could work for a lot of people, it brings back those calm, fearless thoughts of being a child colouring in, so it really helps relax and unwind.
One of the best things to do when having a panic attack or you're starting to feel yourself stressing is taking yourself out of the situation as soon as possible, this is the best thing to do because if you continue putting yourself in that position you will only make it worse, you need to step outside or just take yourself away from the scene to give yourself the space and time to calm down before it escalates. I know that sometimes you may feel rude if you're having a conversation with somebody or with a group of friends but you need to just think of yourself in a moment like that, thinking about what they will think of you for walking away for a moment will again only make it worse!!
Another thing is always be yourself, I know it's a bit of a cliche saying but if I could have told my younger self anything, it would be to always be myself, to never care what any one would say because no one has the right to judge who you are! So always be yourself and just enjoy the life you've been given!
